HUMP DAY HOOK is a weekly blog hop where each participating author posts one paragraph from either a published book or work in progress.
In today’s excerpt we return to events in Trails of Love I Crawl Part 2 and jump into the middle of a fight scene between Belial and Ádhamh. You know Belial from the banner and also a painting posted here earlier, Ádhamh’s likeness is captured on the smaller portrait on the book cover. Until this second in their fight, Ádhamh had fought in his wolf form and here we witness his transformation in his human body and his immediate reaction. Enjoy reading.
Close to the edge of losing consciousness in the wicked vice, his body suddenly spun on a wave of breathless pain like a ship that had lost her captain. For a blink of time, it trembled in the moment of an unwanted transformation and then he finally… saw… the face of his opponent. What didn’t matter to the wolf, mattered to the man. In this night of the hunted, he beheld the face of god. He beheld a flying dragon of perfection with desire coated wings. He beheld the miracle of eternal lust. Blood, dust, sweat, desire. Desire. Desire. It paralyzed him as if a lightning struck him in the middle of a summer storm. He couldn’t breathe but not because his trachea was still blocked. He was dying for the pale fluorites of the god’s eyes, for the luxuriant tresses of his cinereous hair, however tangled they were under the filth of battlefields? for the full lips, even for the unearthly heat emanating from his body. He was dying… but the dead couldn’t… lust.
I hope you enjoyed the second of respite in the middle of their fight. Ádhamh wants to point out that it didn’t take him longer then to pull himself together and get back to brawling.

wow, that was like being caught up in a tornado! Great description and I want to know what happened next. I’m hooked!
Thank you! I’m happy you loved reading the snippet. Ádhamh grins and says that you described it about right, he certainly felt like in a whirlwind.
Well, tell him I am here to clean him up if he needs it! ; )
lol, he appreciates the offer but says he has already taken care of it.
Wow, a very dramatic hook!

Thank you, Sherry.
Now that’s a hook…filled with drama!
Thanks, Alexandra.
I love the lyrical writing style and the intensity of his perceptions and emotions. It’s almost as if time stands still for a moment.
Thank you, Flossie. I’m happy you enjoyed reading so much. lol, Catherine said it was like a tornado and in a way it was but also the time standing still parallel applies. Ádhamh pondered it for a while and said that it could have very well been both at that very moment. Perhaps – the calm eye of a tornado
That is incredible writing! I love your style!
Thank you, Colette! It makes me happy. My dear margrave Ádhamh is a master of poetic metaphors. I’ll tell him you enjoyed the snippet.

Thank you! I’m happy you enjoyed reading.
I know I sound like a stuck record but you do have such a truly wonderful way with words…xx
I always like to hear you enjoyed reading, Tal.
Aah! I thought I had already commented on this for some reason. I love this little teaser…Belial has such a powerful on people…and wolves, apparently. *grins*
lolol, we all guess you meant… influence. Apparently, his Lordship has it on you, causing you to leave a word out *hugs*
lololol, yes, he has this mysterious, powerful “thing” over people. He is certainly the master, making me forget to leave a comment in the first place and then leave words out when I do. That’s okay, though. I don’t mind at all.
lololol, who would mind being distracted by Belial to the point of watching their thoughts derailed like a train? Not me
Intense! Loving this story!
Thank you, Kathleen. I’m happy you do.
